Hanuman is worshipped as Sankat Mochan — the one who removes distress, grants courage and steadies a fearful mind. This puja is offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays, on Hanuman Jayanti, and whenever protection and strength are needed.

Pre-Puja Preparation

Hanuman worship asks for celibacy of thought, cleanliness and a clear heart.

Bathe and wear clean red or saffron clothing
Keep a satvik dayAvoid meat, alcohol and harsh speech on the day of worship.
Sanctify the spaceClean the area and sprinkle Ganga jal; keep leather out of the room.
Choose the timeEarly morning or just after sunset, on a Tuesday or Saturday.

The Ritual, Step by Step

Bow to Shri Ram before Hanuman — that is how he prefers to be approached.

Achaman & SankalpSip water three times and state what you seek strength for.
Ram vandanaOffer flowers to Shri Ram and Sita first, chanting Shri Ram Jai Ram.
SnanBathe the idol with clean water and wipe it dry.
Sindoor cholaApply sindoor mixed with chameli oil over the idol, then offer the red cloth and janeu.
Tilak, Akshat & PushpApply chandan, offer akshat, red flowers and the marigold garland.
Hanuman Chalisa pathRecite the Chalisa (often seven or eleven times), or read the Sundarkand.
NaivedyaOffer boondi ladoo, gur-chana and banana with a paan leaf.
Aarti with camphorSing Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki while ringing the bell.
Pradakshina & PrasadCircle the altar, ask forgiveness for any error, then distribute prasad.
